Fashion’s attention span is short. Just as soon as you perfect your sock bun and learn to live with the uncomfortable level of breeze that blows through your sheer maxi skirt, it suddenly stops returning your texts. You begin to notice its stare lingering a bit too long at a girl in a vintage Pink Floyd t-shirt and 90’s Levi’s at Starbucks. You reread all your texts from the last few seasons. Had you missed something? Your jokes about the desperation of body con dresses seemed to have landed perfectly. Right? Was it too forward? Or were you completely wrong about what’s in and what’s out?

Don’t blame yourself. As with any relationship, this too takes work. Things will go stale overtime. You’ll spat over creative differences. It will sometimes be more interested in your friends. But you can’t give up. You must evolve together.

We started flirting with this in 2016 and it felt so good. Luckily, we’re committing even harder this year. The trend, that we like to believe was birthed through a long eye roll in Taylor Swift’s direction after she left the gym last year in a full outfit, is now everywhere. This doesn’t have to be bike shorts to the bar. There is a balance. Try track pants with a crop top and pumps or printed leggings with a more structured top. For a subtler vibe, try a slip on tennis shoe. You can also find this look slipping into more traditionally formal looks, giving them a more casual fear. Athleisure is all about bringing comfort to everyday outfits, inside and outside of the gym.

Vintage Denim

The days of skin tight, low-slung skinny jeans are over and we’re seeing much higher and more structured cuts making their way onto the scene. Think Cindy Crawford circa 1991. But vintage denim is reserved for jeans, we are seeing this popping up in tops and jeans jackets adorned with quirky patches as well.

We love an easy look that still commands a certain level of sartorial superiority. Something that says “I woke up like that this” while also whispering “but I did it really well.” Matching separates do just that. It’s a versatile trend that effortlessly sashays through a myriad of looks. Pants and a crop top? Or maybe you’re more of a mini skirt gal? Shorts? We don’t like our legs to be able to hang out with each other for too long either. Florals? Solids? Stripes? Fringe? Pick your fashionable poison.

You should throw a garden party, if for no other reason but the fact that you have the perfect outfit for one. Romantic florals and dreamy hemlines are having a major moment and we aren’t mad at it. Think baby doll-esque tea dresses with subtle pastel hued prints and flowing maxis that could serve as camouflage at gardens of Versailles.

Have you ever found yourself wishing for a top that gave the same level of comfort that can be achieved by sleeping with one leg under and one leg over the duvet? SAME. This is a nod to the one shoulder tops of Marissa Cooper’s day but with an “I can’t figure out what temperature I want to be” twist. If that seems to extreme for you, fear not, your off the shoulder top of 2016 is standing strong and we don’t see it going anywhere.

The crop top trend has gotten a sleeker facelift. We are seeing bustier tops and under wires holding it down (up?) on our chests this year. The shape is flattering for everyone. It gives shape to those with a lot to work with and definition to those with none. We’re seeing this wore alone with a high waisted skirt of pant for a reverse mullet. You know, business on the bottom party on the top. That’s a thing. Ask anyone. Also try a solid or printed t-shirt under neither for a cool casual look.
